The open source secrets management solution OpenBao has been officially certified for the Rancher ecosystem, increasing reliability and ease of use for operators.
BERN, SWITZERLAND – Adfinis announces that OpenBao, the community-driven secrets management solution, has officially achieved the SUSE Ready for Rancher certification. By ensuring the seamless interoperability of OpenBao with the container management platform from SUSE, a global leader of enterprise open source solutions, this certification marks a major advancement in providing SUSE’s customers and the Rancher community with open, simple, and reliable secrets management.

The SUSE Ready designation is an official certification and part of SUSE INNOVATE, which validates third-party solutions for compatibility, reliability, and support within the SUSE ecosystem. In order to achieve this status for Rancher, OpenBao underwent rigorous testing to provide organizations with a “seal of approval” for production-grade deployments.
The certification facilitates increased efficiency, reliability, and confidence for operators by achieving the following:
Adfinis, a co-maintainer of the OpenBao project, led the rigorous certification process in close collaboration with SUSE. Adfinis’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Michael Hofer, serves as the current chair of the OpenBao Technical Steering Committee (TSC), focusing on the continued community-driven growth of the project and its ecosystem. Leveraging a decade-long strategic partnership with SUSE, Adfinis acted as a steward for the integration, ensuring that the process followed vendor-neutral practices while upholding the highest standards of open source excellence.

“Achieving the SUSE Ready for Rancher certification is a testament to the maturity of OpenBao. By bringing the OpenBao and SUSE ecosystems together, organizations are now enabled with a robust, certified path for protecting their most sensitive data.”
– Michael Hofer, Adfinis Chief Technology Officer and OpenBao TSC Chair

“We are thrilled with the addition of OpenBao to our Partner Certification & Solutions Catalog. The Adfinis team’s commitment to open source security through their stewardship of OpenBao aligns perfectly with SUSE’s mission to provide reliable, enterprise-grade cloud-native infrastructure. This certification ensures our joint users can manage their most sensitive secrets with confidence on the Rancher platform.”
– Troy Topnik, SUSE Director of Product Management, Rancher Partners & Ecosystems
The SUSE Ready for Rancher certification of OpenBao is a permanent standard effective as of May 1, 2026.
